Early Life

Jackie Chan was born on April 7, 1954 in Hong Kong. His parents were Charles and Lee-Lee Chan, who were refugees from the Chinese Civil War. Jackie was the only child in the family and was sent to the China Drama Academy, a Peking Opera School in Hong Kong at the age of seven. During his time there he learned martial arts, acrobatics, singing and acting. Unfortunately, his parents moved to Australia and left him behind.

Career Beginnings

After completing his training, Chan joined the Bruce Lee Film Company where he played several small roles in movies like \"Enter the Dragon\". However, in the mid-1970s, Chan moved on to work with film director Lo Wei where he starred in several action and comedy films, eventually gaining a huge following in Hong Kong. In the 1980s, Chan began expanding his work outside of Hong Kong, starring in films such as \"The Cannonball Run\" and \"The Big Brawl\". However, it was not until the 1990s that Chan's films became globally recognized thanks to his performance in \"Rumble in the Bronx\" and \"Rush Hour\".

Legacy and Awards

Jackie Chan has become one of the most recognizable actors in the world with a career spanning over 50 years. In addition to his acting, Chan is also known for his philanthropic work, and has been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2004. Throughout his career, Chan has won numerous awards including the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Action Choreography, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2016. In December 2016, he was also awarded the OBE (Order of the British Empire) for his services to film and charity.
